Melbourne’s “street art standards slipping” according to someone who knows nothing about street art

But will the mayor's proposed 'graffiti etiquette' class save the day?

Posted by

It seems often in Melbourne that you have people giving their opinions in areas they know nothing about. Such as the Mayor Robert Doyle speaking about the street art standards in Melbourne. In the video, Doyle, along with some other people no one has heard of, raise concern that popular street art tourist spot, Hosier Lane, is losing its position as a place of quality graffiti work. The mayor suggests a way to tackle this issue may be launching a class in ‘street art etiquette’ [lol], where youth can learn what you can and can’t do, presumably in laneways such as Hosier.

It seems ironic and borderline stupid to expect a laneway, that is one of the only designated graffiti areas in Victoria, to maintain a ‘high standard’, especially since it’s every 14-year-old lad with a marker’s favourite hangout spot. You can view the video below and make up your own mind on the matter.
