Photoessay: West Side Wetropolis

Wet 'n' wild with the night time crowd

Posted by

Perth isn’t exactly evocative of rain. It’s a city that calls to mind dusty, dry imagery—classic Australian vibes of red sand and sun-bronzed locals. For most of the year that idea runs true, living up to all expectation. But from May to November a wet season takes over, which is exactly what became the focus of this series from Jarrad Seng. In it he blurs the industrial backdrop of the city into a dreamlike state but brings silhouettes to a sharp forefront, clashing spectacles that emote the freedom of escape.

This series was created in partnership with Converse to celebrate the launch of their Counter Climate Range. ACCLAIM commissioned three photographers to create essays around the theme ‘Wetropolis: a world that’s damp, intriguing, and beautiful. In this world the wet isn’t a negative—rather it’s a positive’. The Converse Counter range is available online now.
