Japanese contemporary artist Takashi Murakami is an artist of varied and widespread talents, working in painting, fashion, sculpture and animation, there is very little in the art world that Murakami has not made his mark upon. Now he embarks on his next endeavour, curating a ceramics exhibition at Towada Art Center.

The artist, renowned for his ‘superflat’ art style and too for coining the term, embodies the rejuvenating nature of post-war Japanese culture. Murakami has an immense appreciation for Japanese ceramics and is a prominent collector as well as the owner of Oz Zingaro a store for contemporary ceramics.

Over 300 pieces from 28 artists will be exhibited, including artworks from artists such as Shin Murata, Aso Kojima, Gabriel Orozco and Naoki Koide. Each piece is from Murakami’s own collection whose dedication to Japanese ceramics has helped to bring the practice into international circles.
