No offense Melbourne, but if you were my boyfriend, this is right about the time I’d be hating your moody little bitch ass and wondering why the fuck I got with you in the first place. Wait, that’s a bit harsh but this weather is a reallllll fuckin’ buzz-kill. Am I right? Or am I right? 12 year cold-snap you say? Oh how wonderful. That sure puts a spring in my step in the morning.

Meanwhiles (that s was a typo, but it stays, I like that ‘meanwhiles’) over in Paris… Beautiful tanned Europeans are hanging out on rooftops in the sunniest of sunshine and celebrating Stussy’s 30th Birthday with bbqs and cute boys in pork-pie hats and… hang on was that Jeff Staple?... and girls that are cool but not even that hot so you would still have a chance with said cute boys in pork-pie hats, and the fucking eiffel tower just shining in the background like it ain’t no thing. This video gone and went and broke my goddamn heart.

Melbourne. Get it together. We are not being intimate again until I see some fucking sunshine.

Regards,

Alex

ACCLAIM Issue 21 | Take Ivy X Coggles

Posted on 2010-09-06 13:08 | Posted by Pj Smith
Take Ivy Book Cover
1

To celebrate the re-release of Take Ivy, for the first time in English no less, we asked our friends at UK boutique Coggles to take some of our favourite images from T. Hayashida’s now iconic book and give us their contemporary reinterpretations.

Take Ivy has, even in it’s notorious scarcity, become one of the first points of reference for the revival in traditional Ivy League and American rugged wear so we were excited to see how Coggles would respond to the challenge. Their ability to pull current pieces from brands like Fred Perry, Paul Smith, A.P.C. and more and reconstruct these classic looks from 1960s American college life was impressive and in turn a perfect example of how so much of current contemporary style does come from vintage American fashion.

As a special treat we present some of those pages from issue 21 here today followed with a detailed look at the re-issued Take Ivy published by powerHouse books

You can purchase Take Ivy here and find all the brands featured in this special collaboration over at Coggles.com.

Check that new jack swing jam. I’m fiending a hot drink right about now… and seem to inherently know the protocol for making a coffee, tea or hot choclate at your local Wendys store circa 1990’s.

Kevin Tran’s ‘STROBE’ at China Heights

Posted on 2010-09-05 17:05 | Posted by Chau Tran

This past Friday I attended Kevin Tran's solo exhibition - STROBE - at the China Heights Gallery in Sydney’s Surry Hills. Luckily I managed to get there early and take some happy snaps of his collection on show before the crowds piled in and covered my view!

With free booze and red bull on offer, the tiny gallery was packed early on in the evening with an eclectic mix of individuals enjoying the collection and ‘cause I knew the artist through a friend, I managed to catch Tran on the side for a few minutes of chit chat where he explained the concept of STROBE, acknowledging that it was inspired from “the last year, having fun with friends at festivals, and stuff like that”.

With 15 limited edition prints of each artwork design (7 in total), Tran created beautiful illustrations with mixed medium on cotton rag paper, using vibrant colours that really popped from the black backgrounds. You had to be there to really step up and pay close attention to the detail of each piece the artist put into his work, but all in all it was a great solo show for the twenty-something year old.

Hit up the gallery to see the rest of the
