STROBE – Solo exhibition by Kevin Tran

Posted on 2010-09-02 18:38 | Posted by Chau Tran

I'm always interested to see what local artists are working on in Sydney (and the rest of Australia). Creative cat Kevin Tran (no, we're not related!) is showing what he's been working on lately tomorrow night at the China Heights Gallery. With his dreamlike approach to his work, showing impulsive and expressive colours, Kevin’s works allow for some eye-catching imagery. If you don't already have plans for Friday night, come check out his work and support a great artist at his Solo Exhibition from 6.30pm. Check out his past work at his official site.

Ladies streetwear boutique Dirtyrich is having a good ol' fashioned yard sale at Dulwich Hill in Sydney next Saturday September 11. I don't think they actually called it a yard sale but that's my story and I'm sticking to it. Bargains to be had ladies so get your asses there in order to pick up a bunch of luxe streetwear labels at a steal.

Futura Laboratories Winter Collection 2010
1

That would be right, we’re into our second day of Spring and in Japan they are just getting ready to drop some great winter pieces. Take Futura Laboratories for example, they’ve released some shots of their upcoming winter products. Cardigans, cycle jackets, flight jackets and shoulder pad crewnecks are all up in the mix, lots of gun metal greys, navy’s and a hint of tan makes up the colour palette. Check out the collection after the jump.

Roc Star (whom we featured in issue 20) are set to release a collection with Stussy. The drop features some classic early Stussy pieces, such as bucket hats, tees (of course) and my favourite the varsity all with that special Roc Star touch. More images of the collection after the jump.

In the third and final of this short film series Jimmy Gorecki (who has been the series staple) and Chris Mulhern ride out in NY. It’s not really a surprise to see Gourmet (whom we featured in issue 18) move into the realm of skateboarding footwear with the three brothers having had collective eperience at brands like Zoo York, Supreme, DC and Girl… You can catch the rest of the series over at Gourmet’s Vimeo.

Toy Art Gallery Show - Kaiju
1

LA’s space dedicated to the burgeoning low bro art of toys, The Toy Art Gallery, is set to launch their latest show this Saturday which focuses on the work of monster-inspired artists. Don’t think this stuff is for overgrown kids with some of the biggest collectors around guys like Nike CEO Mark Parker, Radiohead artist Jermaine Rogers and even Jeff Koons… well maybe it is just big kid stuff…

If your in LA make sure you try and check it out. For those of us that aren’t you can get a great feel of what to expect by checking the gallery below. For more specifics on the artists themselves head over here.

A quick heads up some of these figures are pretty wild and may freak out your co-workers…

STPL X Oakley | Frogskins | First Look

Oakley X STPL Frogskins
1

STPLE (Whose founder Jeff Staple we interview for our 19th issue) have released the first photos of their Frogskin collaboration with Oakley that sits as a part of their History Of Oakley series with five other frames.

All the key (and somewhat expected) iconography from STPL is to be found, namely the pigeon, however with the focus of the eyewear being lifestyle (apparently Oakley’s first lifestyle frames) it all makes sense.

I have to say some may have read my rant on Oakley a while back. I’m not a hater, they have some great styles, and this collaboration is definitely a solid one, just don’t expect me to be impressed when you pull lame media stunts.
