Issue 21: FRIENDS

Issue 21 of ACCLAIM sees us look at the theme of FRIENDS. No, not the late ‘90s American sitcom, but rather movements, brands, artists and companies that are a team effort or collaborative in nature. The issue uncovers the friendships at the core of everything from art collectives to skate crews, business partners to frat houses, a man’s relationship with his automobile and a store owner’s relationship with their dog. We get to the bottom of what makes the partnerships tick and what the spirit of collaboration and working with others brings to contemporary creative culture.

Our cover features the work of Brookyn photographer Ellen Stagg. Keep an eye out for the alternative covers only available at our launches and boutique retailers.

Other features include: Gary Panter and Todd James, Theophilus London, Onra, Take Ivy fashion shoot, Jeff Jank and Benjamin Marra, Ryan Keely and Justine Joli, Kustom Coach Werks, Andreas Johnson of Rosforth, Freegums, Jasper Wong, RSVP Gallery and much more…

GARY PANTER X TODD JAMES

We have iconic lowbrow artist Gary Panter spin the shit with current underground art illuminati Todd James. The two long time friends chat about everything from Lady Gaga to junk food and jam sessions.

Greg Selkoe Feature

GREG SELKOE OF KARMALOOP

You know the retail giant but do you know the man and team behind it? We interview Karmaloop’s CEO and founder Greg Selkoe about how he got started and what it means to have a solid team around you and the company’s recent switch to cable television.

Ellen Stag Feature

ELLEN STAGG

Our cover photographer this issue is Ellen Stagg. Notorious for her erotic photography featuring women from the adult industry, many of whom are close friends, Ellen has flipped the script on the photographer vs. subject dynamic and creating some amazing shots in the process. We had Ellen shoot best friends and Penthouse Pets, Ryan Keely and Justine Joli for an exclusive spread for the issue. The girls also grace our cover.

Ben Jeff Feature

JEFF JANK X BENJAMIN MARRA

Fresh off the back of their recent creative work for the Madlib Medicine Show No. 5: The History of the Loop Digga release, Stones Throw’s art director Jeff Jank and underground comic-artist Benjamin Marra wax lyrical about the process and creativity in general.
