01. Blocboy JB & Drake – 'Look Alive'

It seems like Drake is gearing up to continue his hot streak in 2018, and ‘Look Alive’ sees him burst into flames. Following his Scary Hours tracks ‘God’s Plan’ and ‘Diplomatic Immunity’, ‘Look Alive’ is hard hitting banger filled with flurries of classic keys and boomin’ 808s. Blocboy JB is new to the scene, but his witty, aggressive flows pair perfectly with the effortless swagger of the 6 god. Style mixed with braggadocio makes ‘Look Alive’ one of the most fiery singles of 2018 so far, and has us looking forward to what both Blocboy JB, and Drizzy have coming in the future.

02. Various Artists – Black Panther Soundtrack

Black Panther is not your average movie soundtrack. It’s a collective album curated by one of the best rappers in the game right now, Kendrick Lamar. Sporting features from Schoolboy Q, SZA, Khalid, Kung Fu Kenny himself and a whole slew more, Black Panther is a enigmatic, ethereal project that features the claw cutting sounds of the jungle. Kendrick glues the different sounds and styles of each musician together seamlessly creating a blockbuster of an experience even before you see the movie. Black Panther is a testament that Kendrick Lamar, can truly do no wrong.

03. Ravyn Lenae – Crush

Chicago R&B singer has teamed up with the The Internet’s Steve Lacy for her new EP Crush. Providing five tracks of neo-soul, funk jams, Ravyn Lenae howling falsettos soar over the unconventional guitar jangles and murmuring bass lines of Lacy’s production, creating a sound that is clearly vintage in the genre, but unique to the eccentricity of both artists. Expect to dance and sing along to this one because Crush is bound to be one of the catchiest in 2018.

04. Mount Kimbie & King Krule – ‘Turtleneck Man’

If you’ve paid attention to their respective careers, you would know that Mount Kimbie and King Krule always make for interesting collaborations and ‘Turtleneck Man’ is no different. At only 1:22 long, this new song is an off-kilter obscure rap song with King Krule’s oozing baritone performing spoken word in a monotonously magical tone. Mount Kimbie provide oddly times drum breaks and lingering, detuned keys, creating a sense of etherealism throughout the song’s glimpsing duration. Will there ever be a Mount Kimbie and King Krule collaboration album? Songs like ‘Turtleneck Man’ makes us hope.

05. Junglepussy – ‘State Of The Union’

New York-based rapper Junglepussy is back with ‘State Of The Union’, a soaring flurry of bars about empowerment and personal journeys. This new cut proves that Junglepussy hasn’t lost an ounce of her stern, stylish swagger after a two year music hiatus. She’s just as menacing as ever. Over a New York drenched, boom bap beat, Junglepussy sounds larger than life, dropping one liner after one liner. It’s this undeniable braggadocio that made us fall in love with Junglepussy in the first place. After ‘State Of The Union’ we hope she never leaves us again.

06. Blackheart – ‘1up’

Blackheart for the past few years has been crafting his own unique sound from the comfort of his bedroom in Brooklyn. It’s a style that that mixes the online aesthetics of early Yung Lean with the contemporary sounds of mainstream juggernauts like Travis Scott. On ‘1up’, he finds the perfect balance, with his reverberated vocals culminating in fast flows and catchy melodies, over an instrumental that is undeniably trap but is laced with obvious influences of synth-pop and chiptune. There’s no denying that Blackheart is on the rise with plans to drop his new project The Vibrant Pink this year, as well as playing shows in Australia with artists such as HTMLflowers.

07. Kero Kero Bonito – ‘Only Acting’

‘Only Acting’ is a departure from the synth-heavy video game inspired style of British pop band Kero Kero Bonito. Instead, they delve into the realms of punk and noise, using glitchy synth pads, rumbling bass lines, and distorted guitar chords to drive this 90s-esque anthem. It definitely is a left turn from what you’d expect from a Kero Kero Bonito track but it contains the same charm of all their previous work. We can only hope that Kero Kero Bonito drop an album this year and we can only hope that it contains the same adrenaline pumping earworm sounds of ‘Only Acting’.

08. Frank Ocean – 'Moon River'

A late Valentine from everybody’s bae. What else is there to say?
