Watching a Nardwuar interview is often a valuable lesson in music history, with the Canadian music journalist always bringing out some obscure or rare af music references and gifts for his guests. When that guest is a living legend, however, those vintage records act more like looking back at old crew photos, which was certainly the case for this recent chat with rapper Redman. An early ’90s record sends Redman down memory lane, recalling his love for MC Lyte, Heather B and a whole slew of seminal artists. Red also shows his veteran/rap dad status by giving some solid advice about turning out consistently good shows, no matter what the crowd, referring to himself as “underground”, and not quite getting Nardwuar’s characteristic sign-off.
