Earlier this week Tyler the Creator cancelled a number of appearances in England and Ireland, including at the Reading and Leeds festivals, “Due to Circumstances”.

It turns out that the UK’s Home Secretary has decided to ban Tyler the Creator from entering the country for anywhere from three to five years.

The Home Office cited lyrics from his previous work on Goblin and Bastard as the reason for banning Tyler, saying that his work encourages violence against homosexuals, fosters hatred, and encourages terrorist acts.

In a post on his blog Tyler’s manager, Christian Clancy, expressed his confusion and dissapointment at the decision by the Home Office.

“to say that i am confused would be an understatement. can you imagine being beholden to things you said when you were 18? tyler has been to the UK over 20x in the last 5 years without incident (shows, in stores, meet and greets). we rented out a movie theatre last month in London for a private showing of napoleon dynamite for his fans. literally last month.”[SIC]

The action by the UK follows a successful campaign by Australian feminist action group Collective Shout to stop Tyler entering the country for a number of planned shows for his album Cherry Bomb.
