Here’s a first look at Frank Ocean in Calvin Klein’s Fall ’16 campaign

The enigmatic singer opens up about music, art, and his Calvins

Posted by

Frank Ocean, the man everyone’s been watching (for ever, it feels like) is slowly returning to our lives in a very real way, with his latest official project being nothing less than a feature in Calvin Klein’s latest advertising campaign. Frank’s involvement was teased earlier today, appearing in a series of screentest-style videos via the fashion label’s Snapchat account (@calvinklein, if you’re curious). In the disposable clip, Frank’s story appeared alongside the likes of Kate Moss, Grace Coddingtion, Young Thug, and Australian actress Margot Robbie, among others. The elusive singer was recorded close-up, speaking about art, and wearing a classic CK white tee.

The label then released a preview clip via Instagram, as well as full visuals on their official site confirming that yes, Frank Ocean is still kicking it and yes, he’s still delightfully cryptic about everything. The Instagram video splices together a number of the new #mycalvins ambassadors, in very Channel Orange style, with Frank showing up in suit and t-shirt combo, first on a faux talk show and then in a surreal, slanted bedroom, offering an expectedly mysterious line or two, on top of a pensive piano tune.

“I feel ashamed, there’s no place to hide out here, these skies are filled with planes.”

A comment on the unrelenting attention of fans and interested media? Perhaps. A line from one of his soon-to-be-released songs? We hope so. Either way, it’s obvious that Frank is gearing up for a return to the spotlight, speaking a little more about how ‘necessary’ making music is to him in his dedicated video spot, which you can watch above. With the low-key way he announced the probable release of his next album, we’ll remain quietly hopeful that the drop happens as intended this month, but at least this affirms how much effort must have gone into the project.

Check Frank out in the gallery above and take a look at the full campaign so far on Calvin Klein’s website.
