The Japanese macaque monkey who won our hearts and every fur coat edition of Who Wore It Better when he was found shopping for minimalist Swiss furniture in December 2012, Ikea Monkey, known amongst friends simply as Darwin, has finally heard his fate RE: his ongoing custody battle.

Darwin’s owner and mum, Yasmin Nakhuda, has been fighting against Storybook Farm Primate Sanctuary in Sunderland in a court saga that reportedly cost her upwards of $250,000 in legal bills.

However the judge has ruled against Nakhuda, in doing so crushing the internet’s hopes of seeing future street style snaps of our favourite primate. The Margot Tenenbaum lookalike is now taking up permanent residence at Storybook, thereby abandoning his materialistic lifestyle and recent obsession with #normcore for a new way of life more appropriate for a monkey complete with bananas and trees and other monkeys.

“All we can hope is that the sanctuary will show compassion by allowing us to see Darwin and give him the warmth of hugs that Darwin craves and needs for his proper development,” Nakhuda said.

“Somehow, deep in my heart, I believe that Darwin and I will still be reunited through the power of love.”
