Every wanted to travel to Tokyo without stepping a foot outside your own room? Your prayers have been answered. In his hyperlapse, cinematographer and filmmaker from the UK, Christoph Gelep takes us on a journey through the vibrant concrete jungle.

“This film was shot over a 5 day trip to Tokyo in January 2016,” recounts Gelep. “It was my first time visiting Japan, a place I had always wanted to see. With a population of 35 million, Tokyo is the largest metropolitan area in the world. Due to this, I soon realised how lively and energetic this city really is. I decided to take my camera and explore this fascinating city so rich in culture, tradition and innovation.”

The hyperlapse is impressive. It captures scenic aerial sunset views over the Japanese city, teleports us amongst the bustling neon-lit, consumer driven streets. We drive the Tokyo metro, visit the 18-metre Gundam robot, and climb the 100-metre Odaiba Ferris Wheel. The cinematography is astounding; the rain sequence of shots is a must-see. The video captures vibrancy, spirituality and history. It’s busy… it’s Tokyo. Are we desperately searching for cheap Japanese airfares? Yes.
