Old Bar

Ok, first off, God bless these guys—they open late and they’re on Johnston Street so their staff are clearly saints. While I’m not really into the music that gets played here, I am really into their smoking area and having pints here, and that’s all that matters.

The Reverence

I had to make a stop at The Reverence. I used to smash this pub all the time, but I’m not on the west side any more so it’s been harder and harder to get to. An absolutely boss beer garden exists in the belly of this place along with the weirdo bar flies that frequent it.

Newmarket Tavern

Newmarket tav is unique. While from the outside this place looks like your average pokie farm, the inside is a marvel. The smoking area is indoors, fully equipped with televisions, and has a lovely water feature—as far as smoking goes it doesn’t get any better.

Monty’s Bar

These guys opened last year and they have a cracking outdoor area. Complete with fake grass and good vibes, I’m surprised I haven’t been kicked out yet for being unruly. I can also recommend their pizzas and drink mixing skills if that’s your thing. But I just like darts.

The Lomond

The Lomond is my local, and a proper old boy pub. The bonus for this place, aside from being quiet and relaxed as hell with their closing times, is that if you’re in the beer garden you can snag the aux cord and play whatever obscure garbage you happen to have on you and alienate everyone else.
