Footnotes is a weekly wrap-up of everything that’s happening in the world of sneakers. It’s your cheat sheet to the latest news like new drops, collabs, sales, store openings, and anything else related to what you put on your feet.

01. Nik Air Max 97 x Swarovksi

20 years ago the world got its first taste of the now modern classic Air Max 97. Originally releasing in silver and then a few years later in gold, it’s safe to say that metallic has been a common theme for the line. For this latest addition to the 97 legacy Nike has teamed up with jewellery brand Swarovski to create what’s possibly their most lux silhouette to date. Some of its features include max air tooling, tonal laces, and of course Swarovski crystal fabric swatches. The silver iteration is set to release on September 7 retailing at $400USD.

02. Porsche Design x adidas 'Bounce Chronicles'

The revolutionary minds of adidas and Porsche come together once again to release a new monochromatic collection titled ‘Bounce Chronicles’. Featuring technology akin to one of Newton’s manuscripts, Porsche Design has revamped four of the Bounce: S sneakers including the Bounce: SL, Bounce: S2, Bounce: S3 and the Bounce: S4. First released back in 2008 each model has been geared in such a way to improve forward propulsion by the implementation of a suspension system that couples with a pivot mechanism. Each pair will be available via Adidas.com in the not so distant future, and definitely shouldn’t be slept on if your aesthetic leans more towards 2050 than 2017.

03. Nike HyperAdapt 1.0

Along with the much desired “Back to the Future” Nike Mag, the Nike HyperAdapt heralds as the brand’s technological spearheads. Looking like something from 50 years down the track, with the functionality to match, the Hyper Adapt is soon available to grace our feet in the fresh “Black/White Red Lagoon” colourway. Whilst not doing any favours for the obesity crisis, the implementation of self lacing technology makes for a truly unique piece of streetwear history that may very well be the first iteration of a design facet to be included on all footwear of the future. Expect this new look HyperAdapt to be releasing sporadically from September in the Northern Hemisphere while Australians will have to wait until February 2018.

04. Hender Scheme x adidas Originals

What some may consider to have been a long time coming, adidas have now officially linked arms with niche luxury brand Hender Scheme. Ryo Kashiwazaki founder of Hender Scheme and the senior design director at adidas Originals Erman Aykurt, have come together to tackle not one but three of our favourite silhouettes: the NMD, Micro Pacer, and Superstar. Boasting deluxe goat and cow leather made in Hender Scheme’s Japanese ateliers, each shoe will retail at (USD) $1000, $950 and $900 respectively. It’s safe to say this release wont be for everyone based on the pricing alone, but for those who run a thriving underground contraband market they’re sure to be looking fancy as they go about their business. If that last comment applies to you then hangout for the release on September 2, they’re available for purchase here.

05. Nike Gakou Flyknit

It looks like Nike are aiming to tap into the growing trend of custom shoe design. As if their NikeiD service wasn’t enough already, the new Nike Gakou Flyknit now lets the consumer stencil their very own shoes at home. The silhouette itself clearly has roots in the Aqua Sock and Sock Racer: boasting a flyknit upper, injected foam sole unit (with linear grooves for flexibility), and the Nike Futura logo featuring on a suede heel. The model will be releasing in all-black and all-white with the extra addition of rubber stencils for a truly DIY vibe. Whilst no doubt opening the door to some wack designs, it makes for a new consumer experience which will once again have people talking about Nike. The Gakou Flyknit will be releasing on August 24 at Nike+, nike.com, and selected retailers.

06. JD Sports opens new Miranda store

On Thursday JD Sports opened its fourth Australian store at Westfield Miranda. Considering Westfield Parramatta’s mammoth opening day the King of Trainers latest addition is expected to follow in similar fashion. JD Sports Miranda launched with 50 store exclusives featuring sold out and limited edition styles across adidas, Nike, Reebok, Puma, and host of others. Cult styles like the Nike Sportswear Air Max 97 and 95, along with adidas Originals NMD, and others, all launched on the opening day. Head over to level 3 Westfield Miranda if you’re in the mood to cop some serious heat.
