Air Max Day is upon us on March 26 and that can only mean one thing: one of the hottest sneaker drops of the year. This time round, we’re getting a real nugget of footwear history; the Air Max Zero.

As it’s name might suggest, the Air Max Zero is a footwear prequel of sorts- an explicit throwback to a beta sketch that eventually led to the conception of the Air Max 1. This is the shoe originally envisioned by Tinker Hatfield when seeing the exposed steel ribcage of the Pompidou Centre in Paris 29 years ago made him rethink the way sneakers were designed to conceal their comfort and performance. The shoe he sketched from that idea sported visible air cushioning along the sole and demanded technology and material just not available at the time. The concept was partially shelved and the rest repurposed to become the Air Max 1. Almost three decades later, the iconic shoe is back as it was originally meant to be constructed.

The Air Max Zero is yours to pre-order from 8am on March 22 and at certain Nike Sportswear retailers from 10am on March 26. Get ready to give your feet a throwback.
