Watch Virgil Abloh lecture students at Columbia

The professor of all our dreams

Posted by

Virgil Abloh is not a man of many trades. He’s a man of all trades. Abloh works as creative consultant to Kanye West, is designer/founder of Off-White, DJs, and he received his masters in Architecture at Illinois Institute of Technology. Abloh appeared before students at Columbia University to drop some knowledge on the youth of today.

Abloh spoke to students from GSAPP, Columbia’s architecture program. As a former architecture student himself and as a creative individual constantly using his breadth of knowledge, Virgil spoke comfortably. He tells the students, “lectures like this is where I formulated my whole plan”. His whole plan being the way he has entwined the world of architecture and fashion to create spaces and items that speak volumes.

On his first day as a student of architecture, the class was told by a professor that only three percent of them would end up building buildings. Abloh was never particularly concerned about the odds not being in his favour, he never planned on being an architect of buildings anyway.

With his unique perception, Abloh used skills intended for one role and honed them into invaluable like skills he has used for his many pursuits. You can now watch the lecture above and get yourself some pearls of wisdom from the genius himself.
