It was less than six months ago that artist Ai Weiwei had his passport returned by Beijing officials. For four years prior he was banned from leaving his native China after his political activism and government criticism pissed off the Chinese Government. In his first major exhibition since, Ai Weiwei’s work has been partnered with Andy Warhol for a blockbuster exhibition at Melbourne’s NGV.
Ai Weiwei has been in Melbourne for most of this week, on hand to launch the exhibition. ACCLAIM attended the media preview for the exhibition which features over 300 works by Warhol and Ai, inlcuding new commissions.
The exhibition is extensive and interactive, with extremely photographic works that are sure to flood your insta feed all summer long.
The exhibition opens at NGV International December 11, information and tickets from the NGV website.
