After three years of controversy under the role of director at MOCA (Museum of Contemporary Art) in Los Angeles, street art advocate and celebrity friend Jeffrey Deitch is resigning his position. Leaving the 5 year post early, and as expected the art world is already speculating as to why. The lack of an official statement is also adding fuel to the gossip fire.
The New York curator has had a turbulent time of celebrity ups and commercial downs and though he’s parting Los Angeles with mixed reviews. It has to be acknowledged that he did have a hand in pushing the boundaries of the art elite and the traditional norms of the Los Angeles art scene, albeit for a brief period.
Whether or not Deitch will return to his gallery in New York is still unclear – so fans will just have to stay tuned.
