Every wondered what really lies in a tangled beard? So have a couple of reporters from Action 7 News in Albuquerque, New Mexico. They took it upon themselves to go out and swab the hairy faces of handful of local hipsters before running them by microbiologist John Golobic of Quest Diagnostics last week.
So what exactly is that beard hiding? Turns out they’re full of enteric bacteria – bacteria that likes to reside in your gut (yes, that means it’s also in your poop). But before you boycott hairy faces, you might like to know that most of the world’s Enterobacteriaceae isn’t going to make you sick. In fact, it’s found practically everywhere. Don’t think your iPhone screen or wallet is any cleaner (not that we want to make you mysophobic).
