The controversial show that caused a stir in Sydney has now moved to Melbourne as part of the Fringe Festival. The full, uncensored 101 Vagina exhibition and coffee table book by photographer Philip Werner invites viewers to see, accept, love and discuss vaginas of visual aesthetic and pleasure.

It features one hundred and one photos of vaginas with accompanying personal text from each model.

Hoping to encourage women to feel more comfortable with their bodies and help break down any shame, taboo or stigma about vaginas and our bodies in general. The nicest part about it is that it’s not one big feminist statement. All photographed and curated by a male artist.

“Someone’s had their legs crossed for their entire life and to come to a place where the issue can be opened up is very powerful for a lot of people”, Werner describes.

Similar – but not as extreme – as to what happened once upon a time at a Bill Henson exhibition, the police rocked up to this one when it was exhibited in Redfern earlier this year. I can’t say even I wouldn’t be shocked by the promised display but hey – I’m open to it.
