Remember that 3D ‘S’ you used to write in your page borders when you were a kid? You know, made with six of these | | |, some of them \\ and two of these guys \/ /\? In case you’ve forgotten – or if you’re like me and you never knew in the first place – that familiar shape is called the mighty ‘stuss’. Some attribute it to Stüssy, others insist that it predated the brand. But, ultimately, it’s the official symbol of everyone’s childhood and just like riding a bike, no-one ever forgets how to do it. See, you probably drew one in the air just then. But have you ever stopped to think about where the hell the stuss came from, or what it even means?

Driven by these burning questions, Sydney production collective Moosico are presenting a new exhibition called STUSS. They’ve invited a bunch of Sydney artists to explore their nostalgic memories of the symbol across a range of mediums including installations, illustrations, typography, textiles and more. Rumour has it performance artist Sam Egan will be getting a stuss tattoo live for all to see, and now I’m kind of jealous I didn’t think of it first.

Drinks and nostalgia will be flowing, so be there or be square be at STUSS or be a wuss.
