As a part of a campaign to raise awareness about some of Hong Kong’s severely tight living conditions, Chinese human rights group SoCO released these photos of some shocking 40 square-foot apartments. The apartments are about the size of a cubicle. Bunk beds overlap with kitchens, cooking areas with electronics. And then you’ve gotta fit your family into them.

To completely capture the essence and size of the apartments, the photos were shot from a birds-eye view. Despite claustrophobic subject matter, the photos are quite incredible and breath-taking.
