As part of their ‘States of Independance’ project last year, Dazed and Confused commissioned pioneering online media gallery Rhizome to select artists to be featured by the magazine. Rhizome enlisted Edward Marshall Shenk and Victor Vaughn to create work for Dazed, the results of which–as you can see in the gallery–are far beyond even your most cooked dreams.

Both artists have an extensive background in cartoon drawing and a strong collaborative history informed by Fan-Fic culture. In this set, Vaughn and Shenk take the instantly recognisable characters from ‘King of the Hill’ and pose them in new, often deeply unsettling contexts and scenarios. Where Vaughn’s contributions to the set are outlandish and bizarre in nature, the plots Shenk devises occur within the plausible bounds of the universe the characters occupy, often being all the more disarming as a result.
