Imprint Culture Lab has just released a video of a talk held last year featuring LA artist David Choe, one of the highest paid living artists in the world.

For those that don’t know the story behind Choe’s wealth, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg commissioned Choe to paint murals on the company’s office walls back in 2005. Choe opted to be paid in Facebook stocks rather than cash, which brought him a huge windfall when in 2012 Facebook trading went public.

He’s now worth an estimated $200 million, a fortune that has seen many deem Choe as ‘lucky.’ But Choe here seeks to emphasise creating your own luck and other valuable lessons. After discussing comfort as the killer of creativity through a very uncomfortable analogy, he goes on to share some important insights on creativity and getting shit done.

They’re kind of hard-earned lessons your grandpa taught you, albeit in much filthier language – things like having discipline to draw out your talent, and “not being late to shit.” It’s also I think the only artist talk I’ve ever seen to feature the line, “that’s what I said the last time I was in jail.”

It’s definitely worth a watch. Probably with headphones if you’re near easily offended ears. Check out the video above.
