We owe a lot to the late, beloved animator Makiko Futaki.

Having worked on just about every major Studio Ghibli hit animation, her recent passing is not one we can take lightly. From cult classics like Spirited Away to her final work When Marnie Was There, three decades worth of grinding saw to a creative genius like none we had seen before. She began working at the studio in 1981, and remained there for the rest of her impressive career. Having worked on all of the legendary Hayao Miyazaki‘s productions, it’s hard to imagine a childhood (or adolescence) without the work of the animator, who passed away at the age of 57. We’ve put together a list of all the Studio Ghibli films she worked on, which you can use both to reflect on her excellence, or to set the agenda for a marathon in her honour.

RIP Makiko Futaki.
