Here’s one for the hip, rich and fit. Leading chemical company BASF SE has teamed up with design firm DING3000 to create a concept bike that harks back to the 19th century.

The Concept 1865 E-Bike is made up of 20 different plastics, showcasing innovations in the material, and is modeled on the first pedal cycles, which were released in 1865 (also the same year BASF SE was founded). The high-seat e-Velocipide was revealed at the recent K 2013 – the International Trade Fair for Plastics and Rubber – with no confirmation on manufacturing for the average Joe.

I’m not sure if the bike is really suitable for the kind of off-trail activity that some of the photos depict but I must admit, it looks pretty cool. No doubt major social influencers will be the first in line if this sees the light of day, but in the meantime, you can take a look at some of the detail images above.
