Last week, we were treated to the teaser trailer for the upcoming film Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. It looks very promising to any Frank Miller fans out there thanks to the appearance of an ageing Batman fighting a dictatorial Superman in the vein of Miller’s Dark Knight Returns saga. Well, news from another DC Comics based film is about the mellow out that giddy feeling. Jared Leto’s portrayal of the Joker in the 2016 film Suicide Squad has been revealed by director David Ayer via Twitter. The image was released to celebrate the Joker’s 75th birthday and man, considering the Joker is getting pretty old, it’s probably time he stops shopping at Hot Topic. The post is a homage to a panel from the Alan Moore penned Batman comic The Killing Joke and while that’s cool, Burning Man Joker here doesn’t leave me with a great feeling towards how the actual film is going to turn out. Hopefully there’s some nuance to Jared Leto’s acting that improves this in some way. Hopefully.

Suicide Squad is due for release on August 6. It also stars Will Smith, Margot Robbie, Cara Delevingne, Joel Kinnaman, Viola Davis, Jai Courtney.
