FKA twigs covers Elle magazine, doesn’t care for fame or the term ‘fan’

"Everyone's always chatting and not delivering. I'm the opposite."

FKA twigs is on the cover of Elle’s August issue. We’re melting. Shot by Paola Kudacki, twigs’ creative genius, once again, reigns supreme as she wistfully dances and contorts in ways most could only dream of. Her allegiance to individuality and deviance is captivating. She’s blissfully enigmatic, but don’t mistake this for naivety.  “People talk too much,” she tells Elle magazine. “Everyone’s always chatting and not delivering. I’m the opposite. I like to just deliver.”

Often seen as a ‘reclusive’ figure in an industry that prides itself on attention and publicity, twigs holds a cynical view towards fame. “Being in the public eye is so weird. People want to shame you. It’s not a celebration of a talent.”

Perhaps this is why finds the word ‘fan’ a “derogative” term, she says in the interview. “They don’t influence what I make, but they have a role in us all coming together and creating something genuine”. Instead she prefers to call them “people interested in me as an artist”. Still as philosophical and existential as ever. Kudos, twigs.
