Anybody who knows me knows that I am a stickler for spelling. Yes, I am that annoying bitch that will comment on your Facebook status with *the-your-or-you’re-that’s-actually-appropriate-for-that-sentence. I guess that’s why I became a writer. Or maybe I just like telling people when they’re wrong. Whatever. But seeing this screenshot of a supposed reputable media source made my figurative balls tingle, and not in the good way.
Fox News recently reported on a Kansas City-area spelling bee, which ran for two weeks because the final two contestants were such bosses at spelling. The same can’t be said for whoever was in charge of Fox’s teleprompter during that broadcast who misspelled the ‘bee’ in ‘spelling bee’. Ironic? Complacent? I don’t know but it’s not a good look, even though it has resulted in sniggering across the internet. I’m assuming the broadcaster now has either one more proofreader or one less writer.
