Party legends in the U.S are rejoicing after Blue Ridge Community College (BRCC) in North Carolina introduced a two-year degree program in beer brewing, distillation and fermentation, with hangover management and fast-food acquisition soon to be added to the curriculum.

But seriously, with the craft beer industry worth more than US$10 billion dollars, experiencing its biggest surge since the end of prohibition, it makes sense that the college is capitalising on America’s beer boom.

Students focus on (or try to, depending on how blurry their vision is by this point) everything from fluid / flow dynamics, to operating a manufacturing plant. In addition to covering the basics and science of brewing, they are taught the ins and outs of packaging and marketing their yeasty creations.

BRCC is currently seeking state funding for an on-campus brew house and tasting room, enabling students to perfect their brewing skills and pre-drink arrangements for the night ahead. BYO beer bongs.
