MTV have just released the first trailer for their new documentary, looking at what it means to be young and white, simply called, White People. 

It would be easy to dismiss this as a new joke program from MTV, but the fact that it is being made with Jose Antonio Vargas, a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist, probably means that White People will try and be a serious documentary.

Discussions of white privilege are extremely important but the trailer doesn’t really give much to go by, besides some anger and plenty of tears. Given that it is produced by MTV, expect to see the most melodramatic moments from every interview.

The documentary is part of MTV’s ongoing Look Different project, which aims to increase awareness and combat gender, racial, and queer bias among the community. White People will air on MTV on July 22.
