A junior employee at a British souvenir company may be sent off the field today after they made a slight mistake with their merchandise for the World Cup. It is reported that the young apprentice was given the job of finding royalty free pictures of each England Squad player. The company, which has remained anonymous, mixed up Manchester United defender Chris Smalling and US President Barack Obama (looks like someone needs to go back to school… or read the newspaper. Or just… be conscious during the 21st century).

Karl Baxter, a representative for Wholesale Clearance UK, said he was contacted by the company to try and re-sell the stock.

“They immediately contacted us and 2,000 of the England items was dispatched to our warehouse. We eagerly unpacked them and, indeed it turned out that the Chris Smalling cup had Barack Obama’s head on instead of Chris’s.

“The Dorset company in question was given the seemingly easy job of sourcing royalty free pictures of each England squad player to use on the England mugs – along with other accompanying items such as England coasters, England mouse mats etc.

“They passed this onto their young, bright eyed and bushy tailed new apprentice. The designs were proofed and signed off by their Boss, who had clearly had a heavy night with the lads playing poker and before he’d had his first vat of coffee the following morning.”

Hopefully Karl’s humorous approach to the situation will cut some slack for the poor employee who made the mistake. Besides, I don’t know about you, but I like the Barack mugs better anyway.
