Weekly updates

In an effort to be about as relevant as your dad texting you passive aggressive emojis, Oxford Dictionary is doing that thing where they update their vocab with new, trendy terms.

Additions to the Oxford Dictionary have in the past dated fairly quickly (anyone remember mankinis?) but this latest batch offer a nifty insight into where we’re at as a culture with words being added to help explain drones [hexacopter], internet subcultures [neckbeard, catfish, clickbait] and social behaviours [humblebrag, hot mic, spit take].

A lot of these words have been pretty succinctly defined and there’s something deeply satisfying in seeing ‘throw shade’ become a legitimate part of the lexicon. RuPaul’s contributions should be recognised.
