Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today to get through this thing called life. RIP Prince

With heavy hearts, the world is coming to grips with the death of another iconic music star. It has been confirmed that Prince died overnight.

According to reports, Prince was found unconscious in an elevator on his estate in Minnesota. Emergency services attempted to revive the star but he was pronounced dead shortly after. The singer was recently hospitalised after suffering from the flu but it wasn’t reported to be too serious.

A true icon of individualism and art, Prince had a profound impact on the world, including many of the musicians and entertainers that have come after his unapologetic debut in 1976. The world has begun to pay tribute to the man who brought us countless classic hits, both in music and fashion, and are pouring their hearts out across social media.

The notoriously elusive Frank Ocean has taken to Tumblr to pen a personal ode to Prince, who he says helped him accept and celebrate his sexuality.

“I’m not even gonna say rest in peace because it’s bigger than death. I never met the man (I was too nervous the one time I saw him) and I never saw him play live, regrettably… He was a straight black man who played his first televised set in bikini bottoms and knee high heeled boots, epic. He made me feel more comfortable with how I identify sexually simply by his display of freedom from and irreverence for obviously archaic ideas like gender conformity etc.”
Everyone from Madonna, SZA, Lil Wayne, and Barack Obama have taken to Twitter and Instagram to share their dearest memories of the singer. See all their moving tributes in the gallery above.
