Our collective need to have every emotion, action, and food group readily available in cartoon form on our phone is showing no sign of dying any time soon. Those in charge of designing emojis know just how much we love them, and have released a list of 38 emoji-candidates for the 2016 Unicode 9 update.

Unicode Consortium—the group that designs and approves emojis—have released the list, which includes Face Palm, Selfie, and Dancing Man characters. Most importantly though, a Bacon emoji has been added.

In addition, a list of 15 under-consideration potential inclusions have also been disclosed on Emojipedia, including some very important foodie options: Stuffed Flatbread, Green Salad, and Shallow Pan of Food.

Unicode 9 is expected to be released in 2016, however it’s up to Apple, Google, and Microsoft to add them to their operating lists. Unicode 8 was launched in June this year, and included 37 new emojis including the successfully implemented racially diverse faces.

A taco emoji from the launch, however, is yet to be picked up. We’re hoping the bacon emoji has some better luck, if only for the sake of our Instagrammed brunch. Take a look at some of the potential additions, as mocked up by Joshua M Jones for Emojipedia, above.
