Watch: This mum narrating her kids’ visit to Wobbies World in 1992 is all of our mums

Flash back to being asked to wave at the camera for mum

“Typical Melbourne weather: sunny one minute, raining the next!” It’s almost too accurate, as this gem of a home video comes from 1992 and doesn’t disappoint. If the ridiculously oversized coats and ‘junner’ combo doesn’t take you back, then the trawling helicopter ride should do the trick.

The Nunawading amusement park operated from the 1970s to the late 1990s, and featured a helicopter monorail, mini-golf course, trampolines and a ball pit. How it stayed open for the better part of two decades is a mystery, but the enthusiasm of the mum as she gets her kids to wave at the camera is too familiar to deal with.

We honestly have no idea who Wobbie was or why they hated apostrophes, but either way the park is no more as it has since been turned into a police station. This time capsule of a video is still a prime sliver of Melbourne culture, and don’t be surprised if the park doesn’t look as amazing in this video as it does through your rose-tinted glasses. Either way, the perky narration of the mum almost conceals the gloom of Wobbies World. “What fun!”
