UPDATE 29/11/2013, 4.17PM

So maybe we spoke too soon, Big Day Out has just announced that three bands will be replacing Blur at next years BDO festival. AJ Maddah has just revealed on Triple J that there will be an official announcement early next week, but they’re having some issues contacting one of the bands as apparently they “basically pissed off on Thanksgiving weekend without giving us their contracts.” Sometimes turkey is more important.

All that’s been revealed so far is that there’s one band from the UK and two from the US. Whether or not this is some major over-compensating, only time will tell – the guessing game continues folks.

Watch this space.

I can only imagine that when news broke about Blur pulling out of the Big Day Out 2014 lineup earlier this week, there was many an angry commuter screaming/crying/abusing their poor innocent car radio.

The UK band was set to headline the festival for their first Australian performances in over 15 years amongst the likes of Arcade Fire and Pearl Jam. Blur recently announcing via their Facebook and Twitter accounts that they would no longer be involved in the event, stating “we’ve done our very best to work with the organisers and considered every option to make it happen, but they’ve let us down and let everyone else down too.” The BDO event organisers are yet to comment on the band pulling out of the lineup, but have promised to release the replacement soon, as in today soon.

As to be expected, the Internet has been crawling with possible replacement rumors all week, from Nick Cave to Yeezy – people’s imaginations are running wild, so come on BDO get your shit together, put people’s festival anxieties to rest.
