Chris Brown has announced that he will be touring Down Under in December, with shows in Perth, Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane.

Following his Australian dates he is set to perform a show in Auckland, but according to New Zealand’s Immigration Minister, Michael Woodhouse, Brown is technically banned from the country as he has a criminal conviction.

“The question is one of his conviction for serious assault. Anybody who has a conviction of that nature, even from a visa waiver country, would be required to apply for a special direction,” he said.

The conviction is, of course, his 2009 conviction, which saw Brown sentenced to five years probation and six months community labour, for assaulting Rihanna.

According to the the NZ government Brown has yet to apply for a ‘special direction’ visa, which is required for him to perform in the country. In a statement, the touring company Castor and Ford Tours said,  “Chris Brown toured Australia in 2011 without any issue so we don’t expect any issues gaining entry to New Zealand for this tour”.

This comes after Tyler the Creator was banned from entering Australia and the UK.
