De La Soul blistered eardrums earlier this year thanks to the posthumous collab mixtape with their late friend J Dilla and their eighth album (rumoured to be called You’re Welcome) is due to drop soon, but the ’90s mainstays just don’t seem to be content with two hard releases a year.

The group announced in an interview earlier in the month their plans to record another mixtape with beatmaking icons DJ Premier and Pete Rock in September.

Hopefully it turns out as solid as their Dilla mix Smell the Da.I.S.Y (listen to it above) but it might be easier said than done since Premo and Rock are apparently working on their own studio release at the moment.

According to De La’s Dave, the producer duo has sent them beats but there’s no clear concept of what the finished product is going to be. Either way, it seems appropriate that the group is pumping out so much content: March this year marked the 25th anniversary for the group’s debut studio release 3 Feet High and Rising.
