Weekly updates

Kutaap released this EP about a month ago and somehow it is still hanging around my iTunes most played list. His potential outweighs his plays right now, but I anticipate that will change. There’s just something about this Melbourne-based producer. Have a listen to his Nocturnal EP below and let a girl know what that something is.

EAVESDROPPING ON KUTAAP

Who are you?

My names Daniel Lindsay, I’m 21 years old and I produce and DJ under the name Kutaap.

Where are you from?

Born and raised in Melbourne!

What is unique about your local music scene?

I think the diversity of genres is definitely unique about my local music scene. Most of my producer buddies make completely different genres to each other, but are still so willing to push and support each other’s music. So that’s pretty cool.

Describe your sound in three words. Go!

Electronic, melodic and dreamy?

What makes you unique as an artist?

I’m not very good at talking about myself, but I guess I try to combine elements from my favourite genres into one to create a sound that I (and hopefully other people) like.

Have you heard any new music lately?

Yeah, there has been so much good music released recently. I like to try and keep up to date with it all, so I’m always searching for new stuff!

Got any recommendations?

Yeah, for sure. Here’s a few tracks i’ve had on repeat lately.

This Gillepsy track is definitely one of my favourite tracks of the year. The part at 2:08 gets me every time. Gillepsy absolutely kills it. Huge inspiration!

Tell us a little about this release What inspired the artwork for this track?

I tend to make a lot of music and never end up doing anything with it. These tracks were just sitting in my iTunes so I thought why not make an EP and put them out! The artwork was made by my mate Nicholas Keays who’s a genius at that kind of stuff. I know nothing about photo editing so it’s awesome to have friends that do. [Laughs.]

What else are you working on at the moment?

For the last six months or so I’ve been working on an EP with a vocalist named Lil Mase. He’s from the US so communication can be kind of hard with the time difference, but we’ve finished a few tracks now and are planning to release a single before the EP very soon. So that’s pretty exciting! Other than that I’m just working on some more solo stuff.

Do you have any shows coming up?

I’ve got a residency on Fridays at Can’t Say, so a lot of the time you can catch me playing there.
