Welcome to Acclaim Magazine’s Heat of the Week. Here are our picks for the best new local and international releases — Don’t forget to follow our Spotify playlist too, it’s updated every Friday.

01. KYE - Gold ft. Sampa The Great, 18YOMAN

Amidst the shivering days of the Australian Winter, KYE manages to create sunshine. ‘Gold’ glistens like your reflection in a river as her soothing voice soars over flurrying keys and funk-infused basslines courtesy of producer 18YOMAN. Adding to the warmth is the fire of Sampa The Great’s feature, as she lets off bars with her signature, swagger-filled cadence. Forget the rain, bump these flames.

02. Tyler, the Creator - HOT WIND BLOWS ft. Lil Wayne

“We just landed in Geneva!” DJ Drama yells over this new Tyler, The Creator cut, setting the scene for this blockbuster rap collaboration. Like the Switzerland-based city, the song is rich with the vintage sounds of hip-hop, pairing vocal samples, flutes, and crushing analog drums reminiscent of lake and mountains that serve as the backdrop of this metropolis. Engrossed in this luxury, Tyler comes in heavy on his rap shit, not long before Lil Wayne lets off an impassioned verse that reminds us why he’s one of the GOATs. This colourful track is a BIG standout on Tyler’s new opus Call Me If You Get Lost, which is out now.

03. Doja Cat - Options ft. J.I.D

Venture into the universe of Doja Cat’s new album Planet Her with this immediate standout cut. Backed by synths, hard-hitting 808s, and an ear-catching flute, Doja seamlessly switches between falsetto howls, subtle melodies, and attitude-filled raps, showcasing her versatility. Atlanta rapper J.I.D shows up at the latter end of the song, cutting through the tracks late-night atmosphere with a KO punch worthy of fiery raps.

04. V9 - Hole In One

V9’s new song is called ‘Hole In One’, but ironically, he glides on this one like an eagle. Over an array of bubbly synths and irresistible wobbles of drill 808s, the Homerton rapper bellows with braggadocious bars, contrasted by the melodic delivery of Billy Billions. With a project coming later this year, it’s clear that V9’s stock is landing on the green.

05. Liyah Knight - Moon Baby

Liyah Knight’s ‘Moon Baby’ fittingly shines with the changing tides of progressive R&B. Her voice builds over the song’s 3-and-a-half minute duration, journeying through soft howls into a large wingspan of soul. She sings about the beauty of romance, floating over an ocean of plucking keys, strumming guitars, and basslines rich with warmth. It’s undeniable; this Sydney-songstress is simply getting better.

06. MIST - Rollin’ ft. Burna Boy

MIST brings a unique, high-octane flavour on his new single ‘Rollin’. FRED and Toddla T handle the track’s bass-heavy production, creating an overflow of EDM energy for the Birmingham rapper to slide across with his bellowing cadence and creative flow patterns. Taking it to the next level is a feature from Nigeria’s Burna Boy, whose fast-paced melodies contrast MIST’s stern voice but compliments the song’s club-ready vibe. It’s a blockbuster anthem, which has us excited to hear more from MIST soon.

07. Wafia - Wide Open ft. Ta-Ku, Masego

Wafia’s new single is a lush dose of soulful R&B. Over the synth flurries and heavenly soundscapes of Ta-Ku, her smooth voice cuts through as if she was hiking to the summit of euphoria. Alongside her on this voyage is Masego, whose vintage sleek delivery shines like sun rays. It’s a relaxed, vibrant listen for your Friday afternoon.

08. Creed Tha Kid - Body ft. Jaecy

Creed Tha Kid continues to showcase his versatility with his new single ‘Body’. The Brisbane prospect combines the sounds of pop and hip-hop over the jangling synths and dance-ready of the production, letting off both bars and earworm melodies in a plethora of smooth transitions. Bankstown rapper Jaecy also appears on the track, showcasing his expansive style in a quick but hard-hitting verse. It’s two of Australia’s best, forming like Voltron, and hitting us with a frenzy of talent.

09. Young Franco - Come Thru ft. SonReal, Jalmar

If Young Franco wants us to ‘Come Thru’, we’re pulling up, especially if the atmosphere is anything like this single. The producer creates a vibe on this song that’ll shine vibrantly on any dance floor, with a poignant bassline, glitchy synths, and bouncy drums bound to make you bust a move. Rappers SonReal and Jalmar serve as the emcees for this sonic club night, using their microphone time to blast through personality-filled bars in a manner that almost seems effortless. This track is simply a good time.

010. S1mba - Bounce ft. Tion Wayne

This new S1mba song is itching to thrive in the club scene. With an afrobeat-style tempo and an array of synth flourishes creating this single’s warm atmosphere (executive produced by Stay Flee Get Lizzy), the UK artist flexes his melodic chops in a way that’s bound to get you bouncing. Along for the ride is Edmonton superstar Tion Wayne, who contrasts S1mba’s melodies with a hard-hitting verse. It’s the Summer feeling we needed this Winter.
