Introducing ‘Heat Of The Week’, a new segment on Acclaim where we share our picks of the best new tracks from Australia and around the world. You can find these all our weekly picks and more on our new Spotify playlist, updated weekly!

01. Tkay Maidza - Shook

Tkay is an OG of Australia’s hip-hop new school, and even with 7 years under her belt she continues to outdo herself. Her new single ‘Shook’ is a certified bop, with Tkay’s endless barrage of bars riding the beat with ease. Reminiscent of something you might hear on a Missy Elliott record, the track is accompanied by a super-fresh video that showcases Tkay’s level-up and has left us more than shook.

02. Slim Set - Solar

Sydney’s Slim Set are at peak form on ‘Solar’. It’s cheeky, boundary-pushing and unpredictable. Atro’s next level UK garage inspired production provides the perfect backdrop for Uncle Kal’s hyperactive flows, riddled with tongue-in-cheek Australiana references (“fizzy like passion pop/so she want a sip of this”) that are bound for the reload.

Like many of the tracks on this weeks list, ‘Solar’ is proof that “Aussie hip-hop” is experiencing a metamorphosis and Slim Set has put one of the most interesting spins on it yet.

03. Stevan - On My Mind

Wollongong based artist Stevan delivers a stunningly mellow joint that sees him switch between harmonizing over jangly guitars, rapping confidently on the bridge and finishing with a spaced-out vocoder outro. It’s clear that Stevan is a special artist and this gentle track is perfect for anybody craving a local answer to Frank Ocean. He’s also just released a trailer for his upcoming mixtape Just Kids which we can’t wait to hear.

04. Jaecy - Love Me Or Not

Australia has a new entry in the afro-swing category! Jaecy brings us a serious ear-worm with ‘Love Me Or Not’, a certified butt-shaker that’s perfect for fans of J Hus or Wizkid. It’s a slight shift in style from his previous drill-influenced sound but we love versatility and Jaecy shows us just that on this self-aware bop.

05. 3K - Bring A Friend

Melbourne naughty-boys 3K link with producer Hamley for their biggest heater to date. Beluga, Eissa and Benny Lago take turns trading flows and manage to reference Peter Dinklage and pay homage to the late Heath Ledger. What more could you want?

06. Polo G - Beautiful Pain (Losin My Mind)

Chicago’s young king of streaming returns with a new project titled THE GOAT, which is led by the single ‘Beautiful Pain (Losin My Mind)’. The track is a departure from his usual Chiraq trench anthems that sees Polo jump on an acoustic guitar-led beat and deliver an undeniably catchy love song.
