You know that scenario where you go to the same shitty pizza joint regularly, and you’re always getting the same flavour because you’ve had it a million times before and you know exactly what to expect and you know it tastes good? Well, take that same scenario, but now there is a new item on the menu. You’ve never tried it, and you’re a little nervous to edge away from your familiar “comfort slice”. But these new toppings sound like something you would be down for, and your friend is insistent that it tastes good. Now, picture this: the “comfort slice” is the same 10 producers you have on rotation on your speakers, and the new flavour is OSKR. I’m the friend that is insisting you try the new flavour because it’s good. My God, it is good.

OSKR is a part of the LTID crew, has an alter ego called DEER and dabbles in design. OSKR is a house music producer who has recently emerged from the depths of the bedroom, to the couch, to the internet. He’s had dancefloors shuffling, sure – he’s even had the odd wiggler or two – but for the most part, he has existed online. Just last week we premiered OSKR’s debut single CONTROL for free download, and tonight he will be playing IRL at the inaugural Paradise Music Festival at the Lake Mountain Resort, just outside Melbourne. (How will his online existence fare when faced with minimal phone reception?) In the meantime, turn up for OSKR gone Wilde!

We promised to never use that terrible pun again and then had a chat with OSKR, below:

<ACCLAIMmagazine> A/S/L?

<OSKR> 22 / M / Melb.

<ACCLAIMmagazine> What’s your real name, not your cyber name?

<OSKR> Tom Hitchcock.

<ACCLAIMmagazine> When did you first join the online community?

<OSKR> 2004, maybe earlier – MSN days.

<ACCLAIMmagazine> Be honest, what was your first internet handle?

<OSKR> tomdahomie.

<ACCLAIMmagazine> Preferred net browser?

<OSKR> Safari. I always get shit for it though.

<ACCLAIMmagazine> How many hours a day do you spend online?

<OSKR> 7–10.

<ACCLAIMmagazine> Favourite social media network and why?

<OSKR> Instagram, for the visualz.

<ACCLAIMmagazine> To hashtag or not to hashtag?

<OSKR> #minimalhashtagz + emojis.

<ACCLAIMmagazine> What do you think a selfie says about a person?

<OSKR> They got time on their hands.

<ACCLAIMmagazine> Who is your biggest online influencer?

<OSKR> It’s a tie between Yung Lean and Cashmere Cat ATM.

<ACCLAIMmagazine> What was the last thing you looked up on Wikipedia?

<OSKR> The track list to the Burial album.

<ACCLAIMmagazine> Where is your favourite place to shop online?

<OSKR> I buy a lot of records from Bandcamp. That or iTunes I guess lol.

<ACCLAIMmagazine> How does your online identity compare to your IRL identity?

<OSKR> I talk more shit IRL.

<ACCLAIMmagazine> How has the internet helped to develop your creative endeavours?

<OSKR> I get influenced by new music on Soundcloud every day, which is cool. It has also allowed me to download a lot of acapellas, drum breaks and old samples of 909s which are the backbone of most of my tracks. This, as well as network with some cool people.

<ACCLAIMmagazine> How do you keep up with the constant evolution of online tastes and trends?

<OSKR> The internet is a pretty wonderful place now. With news feeds and realtime updates, it all just falls into your lap.

<ACCLAIMmagazine> Best GIF going around ATM?

<OSKR> There are some cool ones on Kaytra‘s website. I really liked this one though. So continuous.

<ACCLAIMmagazine> Can you show us a meme that best represents you?

<OSKR> Somehow this relates to me:

<ACCLAIMmagazine> Final words to the haters?

<OSKR> Love 4 all of U.
