Weekly updates

With the United States celebrating their Independence Day (surprisingly nothing to do with Jeff Goldblum) on July 4, our State-side mates had both a little bit more time on their hands and reason to celebrate this past weekend — with a collection of new releases making their way to the web during that time span. From the somehow still making music Fergie to the everywhere man Lil Yachty, here is a collection of some of the weekend’s highlights.

01. Fergie - 'Milf $'

It’s unclear exactly what the intention for Fergie’s latest song and video truly is, given that all it definitively succeeds in doing is offering a wholly uncomfortable experience, but Fergie attempted to explain in a recent statement “…changing the acronym to Moms I’d Like To Follow is about empowering women who do it all.”

The film clip showcases Fergie, and fellow celebrity mothers Kim Kardashian, Chrissy Teigen, and Ciara (amongst others), scantily clad and dancing provocatively to a song seemingly inspired by Nicki Minaj’s famous hit ‘Anaconda’. Nonetheless, Fergie is now a talking point once more, reminding the world that yes, she is still making music.

02. Carnage x Lil Yachty - 'Mase in 97'

DJ Carnage and Lil Yachty match the chaotic beat of their new collaboration with an equally chaotic music video, finding the two men wreaking havoc on a grocery store while rapping their new hot release.

Speaking of Lil Yachty, the Atlanta rapper also dropped his XXL Freshman Freestyle in honour of being named on 2016’s XXL Freshmen List. While Lil Yachty is inarguably killing it in hip-hop right now, the awkward freestyle leaves much to be desired.

03. Popcaan - 'Wicked Man Ting'

Fresh from a victorious appearance at this year’s Red Bull Culture Clash, in which he premiered a new Drake ‘One Dance’ dub and dissed Taylor Gang’s Wiz Khalifa, dancehall star Popcaan releases the black and white visual to new track ‘Wicked Man Ting’.

04. Niykee Heaton x Migos - 'Bad Intentions'

Singer/Model Niykee Heaton links up with Migos for the visual to this track, taken from Heaton’s 2016 album The Bedroom Tour Playlist. The Instagram starlet shows off her now famous body while singing between appearances from the three members of Migos, all of whom bring their A-game and some enviable style to this alluring clip.

05. GZA - 'The Spark'

One of Wu-Tang Clan’s most talented lyricists GZA drops this collaboration with none other than NASA (yes, that NASA) for their project Destination Juno, billed as a musical accompaniment to the Juno aircraft launched to study Jupiter which, coincidentally, is projected to land on the planet later today, July 4. Anything GZA puts his hands on is generally solid, and ‘The Spark’ is certainly no exception.

06. Logic - 'Bobby Tarantino' Mixtape

Maryland rapper Logic surprise released a new mixtape titled Bobby Tarantino to kick off the weekend, with the dope project featuring previously released singles ‘Flexicution’ and the Pusha T featuring ‘Wrist’. 11 tracks in length, the tape is the first full-length project for Logic since 2015’s warmly received The Incredible True Story and precedes the rapper’s third studio album expected to drop sometime later this year.

Logic also took the time to sit down with Hard Knock TV to speak on the new mixtape, his battles with anxiety, life after quitting cigarettes, and more in Part One of an interview series featuring the 26-year-old.
