After the excitement (or disappointment, for some) of ‘FACTS’, Kanye West has gone back-to-back with new releases, two weeks in a row. While many thought Ye’s previous effort was phoned in, these two new tunes are much more well-rounded, featuring the sampling and somewhat sad storytelling we’ve come to know and love from Yeezy. In true perfectionist fashion, Kanye deleted and re-uploaded the tracks to his Soundcloud because he “wasn’t satisfied with the sound quality”.
’Real Friends’ is definitely a bit of a downer, speaking on fractured and fake family relationships and friendships. The track features production assistance from Frank Dukes, Boi-1da, and Havoc, with vocals almost certainly provided by Ty Dolla $ign.
The mix then switches into ‘No More Parties in LA’ for the last minute or so. And this one is probably going to get people most hype with Kanye linking up with 2015’s big winner Kendrick Lamar for the suitably-themed snippet. Oh, and Madlib jumps on this one too, so there’s that.
Whether this signals a revival of G.O.O.D. Fridays, we don’t know but his resident leak Kim Kardashian appeared to hint at weekly releases from now on. We’re not mad. We’ve all been waiting. Hopefully this is a previHead to Kanye’s Soundcloud to listen to the two tracks.
I hope you have a nice weekend.
