Cam’ron finally dropped his highly anticipated Ghetto Heaven Vol. 1 mixtape today after delaying the release a few months back. Killa returns with the same Harlem rap formula that made him millions during the Dipset Dynasty, but there is a notable absence of all Diplomats members bar hitmaker AraabMuzik, even U.N. protégé Vado is missing from the cut. Regardless, Ghetto Heaven Vol. 1 proves to be Cam’s best effort since 2006’s Killa Season. If there is any sign that the Harlem hero is on the comeback this could be it. Standout tracks Golden Friends, My Life and Think You Need Love brings back that warm fuzzy feeling that Diplomatic Immunity had back in the day, but it still feels like he’s trying to replicate the Roc-A-Fella production sound without the originators. I’ll say he’s one Yeezy reconciliation and two Heatmakerz bangers away from a fully-fledged career revival.
