Dropping a number of features, remixes and stand alone singles this year, the release of Nicki Minaj’s third LP The Pink Print is hotly anticipated. This is the result, as much of the dramatic ‘make-under’ she has undergone in her personal aesthetic, as the music she’s been putting out.

With the release of the first single from the album, ‘Pills n Potions,’ Minaj reminds fans and rivals alike, that she is still more than capable of keeping up with her male counterparts, quite literally, as she reflects on rising above their dismissal and/or betrayal of her.

The Dr. Luke-produced track bares something of the themes and sound of earlier releases, like ‘Freedom,’ remaining lyric orientated while still being more heavily produced than anything else she has put out this year. With a nod to her pared back look, Nicki has hinted that the music she will release from the album will more closely resemble her mixtapes than her other LPs, noting “the stripped down look matches the music.”
