Google the word ‘palmistry’ and you’ll be inundated with content that attempts to explain the art of palm reading, but buried somewhere amongst the holistic reading of destinies is a Soundcloud account belonging to a very talented dancehall exponent of the same name.

Palmistry, a singer/producer from South London known for his charming sincerity, global influence and collaborative work with Cantonese-speaking MC, Triad God has just dropped his first solo collection of material and it’s exactly what the world needs.

Ascension is an album that will perfectly soundtrack a day spent walking aimlessly around the city, staring curiously at people as they rush around, doing things. The release which boasts nine beautiful explorations into the world of minimalist pop, glides through airwaves in polished chains of plasticine synthesis, scattered dancehall trappings and some truly sincere vocal performances.

One of Palmistry’s best assets is his simple approach: no over-the-top sequences, no ridiculous vocal runs. He doesn’t make promises he can’t keep. Instead, he writes a great song and shares it in it’s purest form – a breath of fresh air in a world brimming with electronic perfectionism.

‘Steal a x’, featuring Jassy Grez on vocals is the best example of this. The track, which at first glance might feel like a high-quality demo waiting on several synth/percussion overdubs, is in fact a fully-formed pop-gem that gives listeners plenty of room to breath. The track is also sure to delight fans of PC Music, who will instantly identify several of the iconic label’s trademark signifiers.

You can stream/download Ascension in it’s entirety here.
