PREMIERE: Nauti Shows Off His Central Auckland Lifestyle as He Marks His Return on ‘OWEE’

The New Zealand rapper marks his return with a hazy visual depicting a hustler's ambition.

Tāmaki Makaurau rapper Nauti is a hip-hop heavyweight in New Zealand’s burgeoning underground music scene. Always wearing Central Auckland like his heart on his sleeve, Nauti’s origins begin as a part of the rap collective Omni Potent, the crew who had an absolute chokehold on the local scene. With his calm, cool and cutthroat rap delivery, Nauti featured on Red Bull’s 64 Bars in 2018 after releasing his first solo project Tired of Being Tired the year before. Now, after a 2-year breather, Nauti returns full throttle with ‘OWEE’, a teaser for his 8-track EP ROAD TO A BRICK expected to drop later this year.

Produced by Roland Jones, ‘OWEE’ is a great welcome back gift to his listeners, filled with mellow production reminiscent of old-school hip hop. The music video is directed by the prolific Connor Pritchard’s production company That’s A Fkn Wrap. Filmed on a Bolex 16mm film camera, the hazy visuals capture the essence of Nauti’s lifestyle, as he sheds light to the ups and downs to what goes on in the streets of Auckland.

This video is full of gems and food for thought for anyone in the lower class. The streets be a nasty place, there’s no doubt about that but you gotta apply your morals regardless of your environment. Stay healthy, that’s the true wealth!” – Nauti
