We now know exactly what a Zayn Malik and Tyler, the Creator collab single could sound like but before he took matters into his own hands, Tyler reached out to the former One Direction member on Twitter. Expectedly, fans were frothing over this idea and while Zayn seemed to show an interest in the project, Tyler alluded to the fact that the singer skipped out on several opportunities. Welp, I guess we’ll never really know how things could have been.

No stranger to URL conflict, Tyler made his feelings about the Black Eyed Peas rapper and producer very clear back in 2013. After a real-life meeting left Tyler feeling a little slighted by the elder musician, he felt it necessary to air out their interaction (and his strong response to it) to his many, many Twitter followers.

All good things come to an end. But when it came to the really good thing that was the collective Odd Future, fans only really got a whiff of the end via Tyler himself, after this single vague, yet very telling tweet. Despite rumours of this break-up lingering for a while, it wasn’t until we saw it spelled out in less than 140 characters did we have to come to terms with the end of one of the coolest groups of young Cali creatives we’d known.

Seemingly fed up with Tyler’s antics, and those of his fanboys, former Odd Future member Hodgy Beats seemed to indicate he had also become a former Tyler friend, after shading him first via Instagram and then furthering the conversation on Twitter. Calling Tyler a fraud and insinuating that he had “shit on” the group, Hodgy was not afraid to get personal with this one. However, like most friends, the boys were quick to make amends after some characteristically strong words of encouragement from Tyler.

Aussie Tyler fans would remember this episode pretty clearly, after the Creator tweeted an apparent decision from the Australian government that ‘banned’ him from touring our country. The twittersphere was alight with anger, sadness, and disbelief even before there was any official word from the relevant authorities (who subsequently advised no such decision had been made at that stage). Since this all went down, Tyler decided not to go through with his scheduled tour of Australia and New Zealand, choosing instead to return when “it isn’t surrounded in controversy”. One year later, we’re still waiting…
